Contact lens fitting is essential to determine the correct size of the contact lenses. In order to get a contact lens prescription and purchase contacts a fitting consultation is required. It is usually performed at the same time as the standard eye exam. During the fitting consultation the curve of the cornea will be measured. If the eyes aren’t perfectly round, other lenses will be prescribed. The size of the iris or pupil will also be measured.

The optometrist will make suggestions on disposable or extended wear contact lens option, in addition to providing instruction on wearing and contact lens care.

Importance Of Comprehensive Eye Exam

During this exam the eye doctor will determine your prescription for eyeglasses, however, this prescription alone isn’t sufficient for contact lenses. The evaluations performed in a comprehensive eye exam differ from those performed during a contact lens exam. Therefore, you have to request an additional contact lens exam before or during your appointment.
